Position Purpose:

The primary role of the Executive Chef position is to create and manage systems to ensure the food service team can provide outstanding customer service and food service for participants and AmeriCorps members at the Jackson Campus, Kelly Campus, and Murie Ranch of Teton Science Schools. The Executive Chef is responsible for the creation and management of systems for inventory, ordering, menu creation, food preparation, staff management and development, customer service, and budgeting.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise in a commercial kitchen that specializes in high volume cooking
  • Expert knowledge of food preparation, safe food handling, food ordering, and inventory control
  • Professional culinary training from an accredited culinary institution or equivalent professional experience required
  • Expert knowledge of various weights and measurements and proficiency in culinary math skills
  • Expertise in all cooking methods (baking, broiling, sautéing, braising, grilling, frying, roasting, steaming, etc.) and applying those methods appropriately
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and supervisory skills
  • Willingness to take initiative, solve problems, and manage a variety of tasks calmly and effectively
  • Willingness to work long hours and untraditional work weeks including some nights, holidays, and weekends
  • Experience creating and managing budgets
  • Proficiency in digital communication and Google Apps specifically Google Drive

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily based at Jackson Campus of Teton Science Schools with potential meetings/interactions/work on all campuses locations
  • May be expected to work evenings, weekends, or overtime to support special programs/events
  • Able to stand/work in a kitchen setting for up to 10 hours a day
  • Manual dexterity to operate kitchen appliances/tools/utensils/equipment
  • Able to bend/stoop/reach and lift up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities:

Food Service

  • Prepares meals in a timely, cost-effective manner using menus, dietary needs, and logistical information
  • Practice best methods to uphold health codes and ensure food safety
  • Determine portions in line with age groups and consumption habits to assure great customer service, reduce waste, and control food costs
  • Develop and steward systems and practices to strive for the most sustainable food service operations

Administrative

  • Creation and management of systems for inventory, ordering, menu creation, food preparation, staff management and development, customer service, budgeting, and food preparation across three campuses of Teton Science Schools

Leadership & Team Development

  • Assure all members of the food service team are successful in their roles and responsibilities within all food service systems through clear delegation, open communication, training, and mentoring
  • Collaborate with program leads from across the organization to meet demands of all food service needs
  • Assure all members of the food service team are communicating with TSS staff, AmeriCorps members, and program participants in an open and friendly manner
  • Model and coach food service team on upholding Teton Science Schools’ values: stewardship, accountability, inclusivity, innovation, and collaboration

One TSS Responsibilities

  • Engage and collaborate across TSS program areas when possible
  • Member of the Teton Science School Leadership Team
  • Proactively and positively share the TSS mission and program structure with external stakeholders
