Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington is looking for a seasonal Lifeguard for our Whispering Winds camp location this summer. As a Lifeguard at Girl Scouts camp, you'll spend your days supervising swimmers at the pool or lake and may be asked to canoe, kayak, or do other program activities with groups.

 

$25 per hour, July & August, 25-38 hours per week, based on your preference, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday - Sunday. On-site housing may be available for the right candidate who does not live in the area.

 

Responsibilities:

• Set up, maintain, and close program areas for use. Including pool and facility cleaning and maintenance.
• Provide scheduled program area time and activities.
• Ensure the safety of user groups during all pool activities. Instruct users in the safe use of facilities. 
• Request/order needed program supplies and equipment within budget limitations.

• Support other program areas outside of pool opening hours, including small watercraft activities, archery, and low ropes, depending on your skills and interests. Certification/training may be provided.
• Support the camp ranger with facility cleaning and minor groundskeeping, such as raking, outside of pool opening hours.

 

Requirements:

Certifications and permits - possess or able to obtain by June 10, 2024. Must be valid and not expired.

• At least 18 years of age.
• Lifeguard certification.
• Child and Adult CPR/First Aid certification or higher.
• Skill and a passion for swimming and water-related activities.
• Strong swimmer. Able to pass the physical requirements of lifeguarding certification.
• Experience working with children, young adults, and adults.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds.
• Walking and standing up to 80% of the time on flat or uneven terrain.
• Stooping, squatting, and bending.
• Reaching overhead and below shoulder level.

 Preferred Skills:

• Small craft certification
• Archery certification
• Low ropes certification

 

Location: Camp Whispering Winds, Philomath, OR: This 220-acre camp is located in the lush hills of Kings Valley, northwest of Philomath and Corvallis, Oregon. The property has picturesque meadows, forests, a central lake, ponds, and a pool. Activities at Camp Whispering Winds include canoeing, archery, mountain biking, and a low ropes course. Rafting, tubing, and paddle-boarding activities are available nearby.
