  • Community Engagement Manager

    Academic Life
    Lenox

    The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for fulfilling the operational needs of the community engagement program at BUTI and assisting with program development. This position also collaborates on a variety of projects in areas including concert performance and alumni and donor initiatives.

    The successful candidate is passionate about community engagement work and arts education, and has a friendly and approachable disposition. They have strong interpersonal and leadership skills, are self-guided, can think on their toes, and are able to oversee a project from conception to completion. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


    Pre-Season Work (May 1-June 7)

    • Working on site or remotely with the BUTI senior staff team, develop and build a comprehensive plan for the 2022 Community Engagement Program
    • Develop organizational relationships through event planning, scheduling and coordination efforts with partner organizations
    • Assist with additional season and special project planning
    • Other responsibilities as assigned


    Summer Responsibilities (June 10-August 19)

    • Oversee logistics (personnel, production needs, transportation, etc.) of engagement performance events in collaboration with Program Director, and respective faculty, guests and program staff
    • Track, evaluate, and report on Community Engagement Program activities
    • Serve as lead representative at BUTI Information Table for all major Ozawa Hall/Shed concert events and designated student and faculty recitals
    • Collaborate and assist on projects related to donor and alumni relations, including the Scholarship Thank-You Initiative
    • Assist with student registration and production of related materials
    • Work with Administrative Office Coordinator and Publications Coordinator with daily office demands
    • Other responsibilities as assigned


    The preferred candidate has a valid US driver’s license and access to a vehicle for the duration of summer employment.

    Compensation includes contracted salary, housing (June 10 – August 19), weekday lunch, and a Tanglewood Lawn Pass for the summer.

  • Nurse

    Student Life
    Lenox

    The nursing staff serves an important role in the health of students’ physical, mental, and musical well-being. They are responsible for modeling a warm and understanding response to health concerns in our student community, acting as resources for the students, and for ensuring the highest level of care possible. They communicate compassion and openness and are perceptive listeners in an effort to quickly and accurately assess student needs.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Provide health support to student population as needed, and make referrals when necessary
    • Maintain files of original health charts of students and records of student visits
    • Hold and distribute medication as necessary

    As members of the BUTI team, these positions are essential to helping bridge the academic focus of students to the aspects of healthy living in a community.

    Qualifications

    • Massachusetts RN license required
    • Experience working as a nurse with high-school-aged students (preferably within a school)
    • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications may be helpful
    • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a vehicle responsibly
    • Flexibility in weekly hours


    Compensation includes hourly wage paid weekly and a Tanglewood grounds pass. Preference is for local (Berkshire area) residents, but housing is negotiable for non-residents.

    Following the successful review of written applications, an interview process is required. Review of applications is underway and will continue until all positions are filled.

    Students are housed in five dormitory-style residences including a turn-of-the-century mansion on a sixty-four acre campus within walking distance of Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Lenox, Massachusetts (130 miles west of Boston). The residences house up to 260 students and approximately 30 staff members. Other facilities include classrooms, practice sheds, a dining hall, recreational facilities, and a performance theater.

  • Student Community Leader

    Student Life
    Lenox

    Student Community Leaders serve an important role in the educational and social life of students. They are responsible for leading a healthy residence community, acting as resources for the students, providing social opportunities for the community, performing administrative tasks, enforcing institute policies, and assisting student needs. Student Community Leaders are expected to know and work with all students in their area of responsibility and to be available and accessible to provide support and assistance on a variety of issues. They communicate compassion and openness and are perceptive listeners in an effort to affect positive change and growth. Student Community Leaders assess the needs of the student community and help design, develop, and implement extracurricular programs and activities and meet these needs. They inform students of and enforce rules and regulations in effort to maintain a positive and safe environment.

    Student Community Leaders must be prepared to:

    • Exercise initiative to handle situations, often autonomously
    • Document and report incidents in a timely manner
    • Communicate with supervisors and teammates regularly
    • Respond to emergencies
    • Perform detail-oriented tasks
    • Perform operational tasks on campus (ex. Distributing mail)
    • Participate in on-call rotations


    As members of the BUTI team, these positions are essential to helping bridge the academic focus of students to the aspects of healthy living in a community.

    The nature of these positions calls for individuals who are willing to work flexible hours. Unless on scheduled time off, Student Community Leaders are expected to be available each day and are required to be present with their residents during the hours students are curfewed (10:30 p.m. - 7 a.m. Sunday-Thursday, 11:30 p.m. - 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday). Due to response, we are currently only accepting applications from male candidates. 

    Qualifications

    • Junior class standing in college by September 2024 is required
    • Live-in residence experience and Residence Life Staff or summer camp experience preferred
    • Strong understanding of team participation
    • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications may be helpful
    • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a vehicle responsibly


    All positions are enjoyable and educational but demanding in terms of the required time and energy a successful candidate must commit. The positions are live-in, and the time staff members function are often dictated by the necessities of the student community rather than by convenience.

    Compensation includes weekly salary, living accommodations, daily breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner, and a Tanglewood grounds pass.

  • Assistant Manager of Operations

    Operations
    Lenox

    This position supports on and off-campus operations, reporting directly to the Business and Operations Manager and working closely with all Senior Administration roles.

    Off-campus Faculty & Staff Housing

    • Assists communications with homeowners and faculty/staff during move-ins and move-outs. Coordinates inspections, maintains key inventories, and documents any disturbances. Assists Program Managers and Stage Crew Manager with pianos moving to rented space.
    • Responsible for managing BUTI guest spaces and the corresponding calendar; communicates with incoming guests as necessary. Arranges cleanings between guests to ensure the suitability of spaces for incoming guests.


    Emergency Procedures Oversight

    • Ensures all emergency plans are up-to-date and are at or above BU standards
    • Coordinates text alert system recipients and tests the system as appropriate
    • Coordinates fire drills


    Security Oversight

    • Assists hiring of overnight security staff and directly oversees security assistants
    • Conducts orientation for security staff, including all emergency responses and regular procedures
    • Arranges security staff schedules, and reviews logs; provides weekly synopsis to Business and Operations Manager


    Support of Student Life Team

    • Assists training and development of Student Life Staff, including facility orientations and emergency procedures
    • Ensures equipment is properly functioning, including phone and radio devices
    • Creates emergency contact cards for program administrators


    Additional

    Responsibilities include attending weekly staff meetings, representing West Street Campus at BUTI events, and developing positive relationships within the BUTI and Lenox communities. Additional tasks may arise as the needs of the program dictate. A pro-active attitude and willingness to take initiative are necessary. The AMO is expected to maintain and communicate transparent office hours.  Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license. Prior to the May-August timeframe, the Assistant Manager of Operations is responsible for becoming familiar with procedures and the responsibilities of other Student Life Staff team members.

    Qualifications

    Completion of an undergraduate degree preferred. The ideal candidate must have the ability to stay organized in a busy and multi-faceted online environment. Professional communication skills are necessary. Experience with technology operating systems is essential. Time management skills and working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications are necessary for success. Experience supervising and working in teams is preferred.

    Compensation includes a stipend, housing, and BSO lawn pass.

  • Transportation Manager

    Operations
    Lenox

    This Transportation Manager position supports on and off-campus operations, reporting directly to the Business and Operations Manager. The Transportation Manager is responsible for facilitating all transportation needs of BUTI. The TM will schedule buses and small vehicle travel and must:

    • Work with our contracted bus service and drivers
    • Work closely with academic program staff who create program schedules
    • Work with other academic staff and community engagement staff
    • Work with student life staff members who create non-academic activities requiring transportation
    • Manage incidental needs for off-campus transportation, such as medical appointments and religious services


    Bus Transportation

    • Create weekly driver schedules
    • Maintain records of bus mileages and driver hours
    • Communicate weekly hours to our bus company
    • Create clear protocols for managing needs during any absence or time off


    Airport Shuttles

    • Oversee final scheduling of shuttles on move-in and move-out days
    • Greet students at the airport
    • Manage transportation to campus for any delayed arrivals


    Small Vehicles

    • Help pick-up and drop off vehicles at the beginning and end of the season
    • Ensure vehicles are in good condition
    • Maintain vehicle use logs
    • Oversee fueling and maintain logs
    • Review driving records for any BUTI personnel operating a BUTI vehicle


    Student Life Team Support

    As a member of the Management Staff, the TM will provide support to sessions for student life staff training, attend staff meetings with academic and student life staff, and assist with the opening and closing processes for the summer season. The TM must help develop a positive environment in the office. The nature of this position requires a willingness to work flexible hours.

    Additional responsibilities: Other projects may be assigned as dictated by the needs of the program and campus operations. A pro-active attitude, attention to detail, and willingness to take initiative are necessary. The TM is expected to maintain and communicate transparent office hours.  Candidates must hold a valid driver’s license.


    Qualifications

    Completion of an undergraduate degree preferred. Professional communications skills are necessary. Ability to assimilate and organize a broad range of information. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications is extremely helpful. Must hold a valid U.S. driver’s license.

    All positions are enjoyable and educational but demanding in terms of the required time and energy a successful candidate must commit. The positions are live-in (summer only), and the hours staff members work are often dictated by the necessities of the student community rather than by convenience.

    Compensation includes weekly salary, living accommodations, daily breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner, local telephone service, and a Tanglewood ground pass. The period of employment for this position is from Sunday, June 9 through Thursday, August 22. After the students arrive on June 23, staff members receive one day off each week. They will also receive one additional day off during two weeks.
