    Shipboard Deck

    Ensure the safety and comfort of the vessel, guests and crew as a Bridge Watch Officer and perform as the vessels Safety Officer.  The First Mate is also responsible for all weekly, biweekly, and monthly safety inspections.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    Leads and manages according to the core Values of True Alaskan Hospitality as defined in our Mission Statement: Immerse each guest in personable and unsurpassed level of service we call True Alaskan Hospitality.

    • Holds a position on the ship’s Emergency Station Bill.  Must perform requirements of Emergency Station Bill for both drills and actual emergencies to include fire, flooding, man overboard, abandon ship, medical, and spill response.
    • Navigation/bridge watch:
      • Operate vessel during assigned night watches to the highest professional and Alaskan Dream Cruises standards, with the safety of guests, crew and vessel being paramount. 
      • Monitor communication equipment and keep logs and records as required by federal, state, and local laws and regulations and Alaskan Dream Cruises. 
      • Make use of all bridge tools and personnel, alerting the Captain as needed or as per orders. 
    • Responsible for the oversight of the ship’s safety locker and all safety equipment. Ensuring that all equipment is inspected daily, weekly and monthly and the required forms filled out and kept in the onboard safety log. 
    • Responsible that all chart corrections, light lists, bridge resources and Notice to Mariners publications are kept current. Responsible for replying to safety or office memorandums and writing all safety inspection forms.
    • On turnaround, assist in the expeditious preparation of the ship for oncoming guests which includes loading ship’s stores, taking on potable water, movement of luggage, movement of laundry, and other duties as assigned by the Captain.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Education of a specialized or technical knowledge requiring formal training above high school is required. 
    • Master’s license for a 100-ton inland vessel.
    • License endorsement required for “Unlimited Radar Observer”. 
    • 3-5 years in the maritime industry with progressively responsible experience. 
    • Excellent communication skills: verbal, non-verbal and written.
    • Writing skills require the ability to communicate technical information, maintain all ships logs, all vessel forms and documentation of vessel operations.
    • Strong interpersonal skills require the ability to deal with discontented, argumentative and emotional crewmembers and passengers in a professional manner while maintaining Alaskan Dream Cruises high level of service and commitment to its guests and crew.
    • Must pass a security background check and DOT drug test.
    • First Aid and CPR Certification.

  • Chief Mate

    Shipboard Deck

    The Chief Mate ensures the safety and comfort of the vessel, guests and crew as a Bridge Watch Officer and perform as the vessels Security Officer.  The Chief Mate is also responsible for managing the deck crew.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Emergency situations

    • Chief Mate holds a position on the vessel’s Emergency Station Bill as Scene Leader. 
    • Must perform requirements of Emergency Station Bill for both drills and actual emergencies to include fire, flooding, man overboard, abandon ship, medical, and spill response.
    • Scene leader decides who attacks the fire, where fire boundaries are set, equipment needed, firefighting agents used, etc. 
    • Fulfills other emergency response duties as outlined in the vessel’s Emergency Station Bill.
    • Responsible for writing all Incident Report Forms as required by company policy and furnish to vessel Captain.

    Navigation/bridge watch

    • Operate vessel during assigned watches to the highest professional and Alaskan Dream Cruises standards, with the safety of guests, crew and vessel being paramount. 
    • Monitor communication equipment and keep logs and records as required by federal, state, and local laws, regulations and instructions and Alaskan Dream Cruises.  Make use of all bridge tools and personnel, alerting the Master as needed or as per orders. 
    • When in port will assign a gangway security watch amongst other duties as assigned by Captain.

    Medical supplies

    • The Chief Mate is responsible for the supervisory management of the ship’s medical locker and the reordering of medical supplies,
    • Ensure that there is always a proper and current certified medical response team aboard the ship on all cruises. 

    Supervision of deck staff

    • Assign deck work lists.  Every day provide a priority list of what needs to be done.  Perform deckhand scheduling regarding what watch they will be on with Captain’s final approval.
    • Provide deck staff with a minimum of two written evaluations per operating year.
    • Train the new deckhand staff as they come aboard on how the ship operates, how they should handle lines, navigation basics, how to pilot the vessel, and emergency drill training. Shall instruct new deckhands in various procedures on how to maintain the ship e.g. painting, splicing lines, doing varnish/bright work, and docking procedures. 
    • Teach the licensed deckhand staff in proper small boat operations. (Zodiac, DIB, etc.)
    • Responsible for the oversight of deck supplies inventory and procurement as needed.
    • Oversee and assist 2nd Mate with keeping all chart corrections, light lists, bridge resources and Notice to Mariners publications current.

  • Deckhand

    Shipboard Deck

    Under the direction of the Chief Mate, the Deckhand executes duties to ensure the safe operation and maintenance of the vessel.  Stand watches for navigation purposes with the Bridge Watch Officer and operate small inflatable tenders and DIBs as directed by the Chief Mate for transportation of guests on scenic rides and transportation to and from shore.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Under the direction of the Chief Mate, handle mooring lines during docking and un-docking procedures, handle anchor winches during anchor procedures, setting, taking and securing the gangway and ensure its safety for guest and crew use and assist them while using the gangway.
    • Perform watch duties while underway, anchored or in-port as assigned by the Chief Mate.
    • Holds a position on the ship’s Emergency Station Bill.  Must meet requirements of Emergency Station Bill for both drills and actual emergencies to include fire, flooding, man overboard, abandon ship, medical, and spill response.  
    • Perform a variety of tasks as assigned by the Chief Mate.  These may include janitorial duties, upkeep and maintenance of the vessel as well as guest services.
    • Perform engineering and security rounds as directed by Chief Mate and Chief Engineer.
    • While on watch on the bridge, assist officer on watch as directed.  Specific duties such as steering, chart work, lookout, and use of bridge electronics will vary with the areas of operation and with the officer of the watch.  When on duty on the bridge, those duties shall take precedence over all else and will require the utmost vigilance. 
    • While in port, perform duties such as but not limited to assist in baggage handling, laundry loading and unloading, taking on potable water, taking off garbage, cleaning windows and vessel wash down. 
    • On turnaround day, responsible for taking on ship’s stores and assisting with baggage movements and cleaning all exterior areas that cannot be completed while underway.
    • Interacting with guests in a friendly and courteous manner always. Provide friendly and professional service while assisting guests on and off the vessel at the gangway, while escorting guests to their stateroom, while working on stateroom maintenance projects, while performing safety rounds, and while the bridge is open to the guests.
    • Enhance guest experience by actively searching for wildlife and bringing sightings to the attention of the officer on watch and the Naturalist.
    • Safe operation of zodiacs and DIB’s, without guests, and their daily upkeep while working in conjunction with the vessel engineer.
    • Follows prescribed hours set forth by the vessel’s daily roster.
    • Maintain awareness of basic safety rules, work place safety and respect for the environment.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Assistant Chef

    Shipboard Hotel

    The Assistant Chef handles and prepares food and meals for service to guests and crew according to recipes and in a timely manner, under the direction of the Head Chef while maintaining proper galley sanitation and safety standards.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for the preparation of all food in accordance with the ADC Menu matrix and Recipe Guide.
    • Participates in the actual cooking and preparation of food items as a member of the galley staff, including baking breads, desserts, execution of breakfast and other prep as requested by Head Chef.
    • Participating in the preparation and plating of all meals.
    • Assists Head Chef in training, and developing of the Pantry Chefs, other Assistant Chefs, and galley stewards, by following company policies, and menus.
    • Assists in loading, handling and proper storage of food and related items to maintain inventory at appropriate stocking levels and to ensure proper rotation of perishable and non-perishable food items.
    • Implementing and executing food handling and cleaning procedures in accordance with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation regulations in the galley as outlined in the Safe Food Handling Manual and Cleaning Specifications Guide.
    • Follows prescribed hours set forth by the Vessel’s Daily roster.
    • Holds a position on the Vessel’s Emergency Station Bill.
    • Maintain awareness of basic safety rules, workplace safety and respect for the environment.
    • Commit to understanding terrain and vessel itinerary.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be minimum 21 years of age
    • High school diploma or equivalent GED
    • Two years restaurant/banquet cooking in positions of increasing responsibility including line cooking and prep work within the last 5 years.

    • Must pass a security background check and DOT drug test.
    • Alaska Food Worker Card issued by DEC.

    The Baker is responsible for all the baked goods and dessert production for crew and guests. Prepare and serve bakery products and meals prepared according to recipes and in a timely manner, under the direction of the Head Chef while maintaining proper galley sanitation and safety standards.

    Summary: Under the direction of the Vice President, this position is responsible for oversight of the engineering team and the Alaskan Dream Cruises fleet of vessels.  The Port Engineer manages all maintenance, repairs, and vessel equipment/machinery.  The successful candidate will create and implement a preventive maintenance system, along with managing engineers to ensure all maintenance and repairs are being carried out on the vessels throughout the year.

    • Must possess current Drivers’ license and have record with no recent violations.
    • Applicant should be able to pick up at least 50 pounds in line of duties.
    • Be comfortable working around diesel engines, vessels, and in tight working spaces.
